NO SURPRISES
Your employees require guidance. Encouragement. Pampering!
All effective Managers understand and follow-up. Give a "pat on
the back" when deserved. Communicate it. SAY it!
TEAMS ARE EMPLOYEES (together)
Employees RESPOND according to their leadership. Time MUST
be given to explain the program. Nothing is worse than not having
a CLUE about the project. The purpose. The GOAL. Begin every
program or project with the END in mind.
What do YOU expect of the employee? The TEAM? What can the
Team expect of you (the Manager)? Do you (the Manager) know
enough detail to lead the project to its completion?
Lots of questions must be answered BEFORE the start date. The
usual questions are: What - Who - When - Why - and HOW.
It's hard to lead unless YOU know the Goal. Include your employees
in sharing the project details. No "bull" from your corner. If you don't
know (details) then say so. You cannot hide behind the missing links.
TIME TO BEGIN
Projects are like TRIPS. Not much fun UNLESS we know our
destination. Employees want direction. Guidelines. Tools. Most of
all they want a leader. One they can follow with confidence.
What do you expect US (the Team) to do? There is NO WAY to make
progress until YOU can lay out the plan for the staff. Special training
may be required. New tools ordered. Details! Details! Details!
Motivation comes from feeling GOOD about ourselves. About our
contribution to a cause. A purpose to live. Building a better life.
Making use of the gifts (talents) given us. Using our skills. Meeting challenges
with success.
Action Tip: Understanding individuals comes first. Teams are an effective
means of reaching goal WITH knowledge and direction. Leadership is the
KEY. Knowing the END RESULT is imperative. GOAL. Work out the
details. No surprises. Motivation is a personal issue. Internalized
values.
